I wish they'd taught me this at school.
*What being yourself actually means (and how to do it)
*How to live with that inner critic (you know that sucky voice we all have)
*How to deal with big events and emotions (without suppressing it)
*That I am unique and no-one else has the answers (for me)
Instead I left school with some artificial grades on a certificate, pretty low self-esteem (school never gave me the message I was good at anything - just 'wasting potential') and no real clue about what my feelings meant or how to express them. I didn't know how to look after my own wellbeing and I battled depression and suicidal thoughts. Ugh.
As an adult I learned (the hard way) how we feel about ourselves may be the biggest player in our overall happiness, emotional wellbeing and enjoyment of life.
Yet we never give our teens the time, space and guidance on how to get to know themselves, how to improve the stuff they want to, how to accept the stuff that is, how to live with that monkey mind and really, just how to be a human on this planet and live a good life.
Instead we fill their lives with shoulds and musts and judgements and expectations and social media streams of impossible ideals and then we wonder why they are miserable? What the AF?
We need more adult voices lifting teens, encouraging them, cheerleading them, telling them they are ok, telling them that there is nothing wrong with them, telling them they have skills and talent, telling them they are important, telling them they are loved.
Guiding teens and providing the space for them to find out and become who they are. To love who they are. To understand how their brain works and their own unique recipes for happiness and success.
This program is that.
A safe place for teens to learn about who they are in the world.
And learn practical tools for being a good (and happy) human on this planet. Just stop and imagine a world full of happy people. What would the world look like?
Thank you so much for this course. I have loved it so much and have found myself feeling a lot more calm. I really liked the activities and the video's were engaging and helpful too. Overall it was great.

THIS COURSE IS INCREDIBLE!!! Starting this course has made my day. Your videos are so relatable, and I love how you added a few of your own personal experiences! Thank you so much for making this. It's so helpful, and it feels good to know that there are other people who go through the same thing that I do. I can't wait to continue!

I liked how calm Belinda was and how she related the stuff she said to personal experiences. The videos were short but informative and the action sheets were easy. They made me think about my emotions more. I liked the course a lot.

1
Why there is nothing wrong with you....and why you feel like there is. You'll never look at things the same way again.
2
Once you understand how your brain works then you can use it to your advantage - like a computer. We'll check out the Inner Critic and learn productive thinking techniques moving you to becoming a Thriver.
3
We've been handed a recipe for life and being human that doesn't work for everyone. Plus we gathered a whole lots of beliefs like 'I'm no good at maths' along the way. We'll look at why these aren't true and what you can do to change them.
4
Emotions pretty much run our lives. We'll look at what your emotions are telling you, why it's important to express them and how to do that in a healthy and safe way. Also you will find out your unique way to change your mood.
5
Your physical body plays a big part in how you feel too. We will look at why and how you can look after and love the body you are in.
6
That person in the mirror. Do you really know them? Do you love them? Do you care for them? What would life be life if you did? Learn how to. And find out why, when you make this a priority, everything changes.
7
It's here, it's a massive part of our lives. How the hell to stay sane and feeling good about yourself when everyone looks like a supermodel and like they have a dream life? You can, really.
8
We share this planet with a couple of billion other people. How to manage that? The comparison, the judgement, the jealousy, the people pleasing...all are normal and good boundaries help with all of them.
9
Life isn't meant to be miserable. Sure we all have bad days (or weeks) but you can actually feel better more often once you make the conscious choice. And you'll also learn how to deal with the crap days because we ALL have them.
10
You can't create the life you want if you don't know what you want! Get clear on a vision for your future (no, this is not about career pathways!) and we'll look at practical tools that help you get there.
11
So if you want life to be different then you need to do stuff differently. How to make changes through the choices you make and how to build daily habits that help you get to where you want to be.
When things change inside you,
things change around you.

I’m Belinda Jay. Founder of School of Stuff That Matters.
I started this whole thing because I found myself saying things like ‘I wish they’d taught me that at school’ ALL the time. I am a teacher, youth mentor, mother of 3 teenage boys and have done mega amounts of professional and personal development.
I truly believe that most of my issues as a teen stemmed from low self esteem (undiagnosed because I appeared, oh-so confident!) I’ve gone ahead and put everything I’ve learned about being human into of ACTION based learning. Anyone can read some stuff or watch a YouTube video but unless you DO the work and put it into ACTION nothing will change.
I've been creating online courses since 2014 and teaching for 20 years. I know what works and how to get the best experience and outcomes for my students. It's what I am here to do.
The course is contained in a online platform that you will receive personal log in details for. The platform is mobile responsive meaning you view the course on PC, laptop, iPad and mobile devices.
This course is designed specifically for teens aged from 13 - 16
